Jolly farmer’s music marathon by darkzac inphotopia.com
Wow what an amazing weekend the farmers just keeps going from strength to strength, this is was the 3rd event of its type, organised by Ian Harris the owner of the last six years. The music marathon in conjunction with the purely festival raised money for canner research UK. If you missed it this time make you hit the next. With a fine English breakfast provided for the early starters and Sunday lunch priced right and not lacking for anything, get down there!!!
A warm pub in the heart of purely Ian has made it a mecca for young and old artists alike to preform there craft in an environment free from the norms of modern British pub culture. On walking in I felt immediately at ease sensing all around that buzz of excitement and wonder at what was to come, with a mixture of open mic, live bands, Irish, blues, accordion playing and solo performances the farmers blew the cobwebs from a tired purely and firmly put their stamp on south London’s gig seen.
I kicked off the weekend on the Friday night with Band sauce open mic night, back on Sunday to watch the saviours and it was alive with the crack and bubble of performers and patrons, a warmly lit bar, with sweet smell of beer and emotions that filled the air, the small stage almost overflowing in to the crowd of eager viewer’s that surrounded it. Amongst the audience a mixture of locals and travellers, different peoples from different worlds united in their love of music, one guy in particular court my attention Steve broe a music promoter, to be able to walk into a pub chat to others as if you have known them for years is not easy to achieve The jolly farmers has done that in spades.
Band sauce as always a high light to any event had the place shaking to the core, with an old school vibe of peter green and a modern twist of soul and jazz banned sauce have it all. Simon Randall did a great slot solo and Rob Cushman’s guitar playing is something to be seen and heard a true artist the kinda performance that makes you realise just what the guitar can do.
I Walked into the farmers not knowing what to expect and walked out with a new home from home a good place to chill out meet other’s or relax at the bar, some were to escape and most of all enjoy a huge variety of music, it’s nice to find little peace, in an insane world.
